This weekend, Nico and Gawie raced the first leg of the trail seeker series - Trailseeker Buffelsdrift. The route was mostly made up of farm roads, cattle paths and single tracks that tested even the most talented technical riders. The challenging marathon route was 70km long and included 720 meters of vertical ascent. Nico and Gawie had a great Joberg2c that ended on Saturday the 28th of April; having won every stage and therefore taking the overall win. Although the nine days of racing to the coast was difficult, the team was eager to race again this past weekend. The race was fast and furious being only 70km.

Gawie noted, “The start of the race was very fast and flat, so the bunch stayed together. Once we entered the Buffelsdrift trail park the single tracks started, and the route began to split the riders.” Gawie went with an early attack and kept the pace hard when he saw no one was chasing them down. He then rode a large section of the day alone before being joined by Nico, who caught him about 50km in. The pair then rode the rest of the race together and it came down to a sprint finish on the line. They worked well together and as a result finished in first and second respectively, finishing the route in 02:25:09 & 02:25:10 respectively.

Nico explained, “We really enjoyed the route, it’s always fun when we can race together. We must thank our sponsors for making the racing possible. We are happy to take first and second and look forward to the entire team racing at Sani2c next week.”
