Last month, the Montclair Bikery Development team officially earned designation as a USA Cycling Center of Excellence, making the program one of only 22 across the entire country and the only one in New Jersey.

"Working together with coach Bill Brunner, we wanted to give the athletes more opportunities," said Dave Adornato, Montclair Cyclists board member and owner of Montclair Bikery, one of the team’s primary sponsors. "We decided to apply for the certification and we were lucky enough to be chosen. We thought we had a good chance because we have a good, strong and committed group of young men."

Brunner told The Times that, like any accreditation, USA Cycling took a look at the organization’s structure and processes to see if they deserved the credit. Brunner said that what surprised him wasn’t that the program was awarded the certification but that they were awarded it on their first try. He figured that, after everything was said and done, they’d hear back and receive a few constructive critiques but was pleasantly surprised to hear that everything went through perfectly the first time around.
