This past weekend, the
current national champion, Gary Painter, traveled to Sattley California to
demonstrate his national level supremacy in the time trial and set a new
national record in the discipline as a result. Sattley was the site of
the Northern CA/NV District road championships and a mecca for time trialists
from around the country to lay down fast times. The course is pan flat and at
an elevation of 5000 ft is perfect for fast times despite the low oxygen
availability. Gary paced his effort perfectly and laid down a blistering
50:59, which set the new record for 40 km TT in the 55+ age group. This
was a great indication that his preparation is on track for his run at the
World Championships in the TT come August in Slovenia.
