On July 14 and 15th 2013 Nathan
LaFrance had quite an exciting weekend. He kicked it off on Saturday with
his Swim Teams Meet where he won all of the events he entered. Then
Nathan; who is 15 years old and working with PCG Coach Karen Mackin as part of
the Youth / Junior Development Program really took it up a notch on Sunday.
He became the Overall Champion of the 2013 Warsaw Area Sprint Triathlon
(Warsaw, MO). Nathan explained that the swim was a staggered start with
each athlete getting their own starting time. He was 8th to start, but in
each leg of the race he passed more and more athletes. By the time he
was nearing the finish, he caught up to last year’s champion (who was in 1st
place and who had started the race about 50 seconds before Nathan!). He
was so excited to come across the finish line with last year’s champion - they
crossed the finish line together hand in hand as last year’s champion
congratulated Nathan. That evening when he spoke with Karen, he
explained that the extra transition practice she had him working on made all
the difference. He said he was in and out of the transitions very fast
and it really helped him get the overall win.
