Haby took 1st place at the fifth Georgia State
Championship race celebrated in Columbus, GA on 9 June 2013. Racing in
the championship in XC3 40-49 category, he added more points to his
championship lead. He is now 6 points ahead of second place heading to
the final race in Hellen, GA on 30 June 2013. Haby also won the “Short
Track” celebrated on 8 June at the same location. The race took place after a
day of heavy rain and more rain before the race. Haby mentioned that his
goal for the race was to stay close to the front and not to risk the race with
a fall in the famous “rock garden” or any other wet muddy sections. Race
went according to his plan. He stayed in the top four positions until he
passed three riders before going down one of the fast hills in the trail where
he increased the pace and took a 10 to 15 second lead on the next rider.
For that point on, he maintained a steady pace and finished approximately
15 seconds ahead of second place. Congratulations to Haby on his second
win of the season!
