Painter repeats as Valley of the Sun Champ

This past weekend, Gary Painter opened his 2013 account to lead the Valley of the Sun (VOS) Stage Race from start to finish and defend his 2012 title as 55+ champ.  Gary traveled from frosty Ft Wayne, IN to warm and sunny Phoenix, AZ and got things started with a win in the 14.5 mi TT and a time that gave him a 16 sec lead over second on GC.  In the stage 2 road race, he increased the gap to 25 sec over second place by taking the King of the Mountain prime and leading out the sprint to get 5th on the stage.  He finished the race by leading the first lap of the stage 3 crit, taking 2 primes and leading the last lap to stay out of trouble and hold on to his overall GC win.
