Gary Maynard - Age: 55.
Ave training time per week: 7-10hrs.

Harryman Olympic Triathlon.

Gary's goal was to build on his first triathlon of the season which blew out the cobwebs and then focus on hard controlled climbs in Z4 on this tough hilly longer 46 km bike. I didn't want him to take any risks on the descents and conserve energy using his bike skill and then get aero and aggressive on the flats between the climbs and on the climbs as we knew it would be very wet and dangerous and cold! Once off the bike to find a rhythm with his legs as soon as possible and run with a fast turnover and then simply maintain his best average effort / pace for a strong finish. Here's what his comments...

"Swim cancelled due to heavy fog and substituted with a 0.9 mile run. Course was grueling and technical with twisty wet downhills in the rain. I managed 265 watt NP though even with lots of coasting covering the brakes out of aero position. Although the bike was challenging, wet, hilly and slow, I did comparatively great against the overall field, with the 8th fastest bike overall.

Run was hillier than I expected and I missed my 45 minute goal for the 10k. Still some strong running though and kicked it up at the end.

I Left my age group in the dust. The next finisher in my age group was 21 minutes behind!"
