Last week PCG Coach Bart Lipinski spent time in Cambria and San Simeon
California working for Best Buddies.
WHY WE RIDE
Funds raised through the Best Buddies Challenge – presented by Santander benefits Best Buddies International – the world’s largest nonprofit organization dedicated to ending the social, physical and economic isolation of the 200 million people with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD). Our programs help people with IDD form meaningful friendships with their peers, secure successful jobs, live independently, improve public speaking, self-advocacy and communication skills, and feel valued by society.
The IDD community that Best Buddies serves includes, but is not limited to, people with Down Syndrome, Autism, Fragile X, Williams Syndrome, Cerebral Palsy, traumatic brain injury and other undiagnosed disabilities.
Bart went out with a crew of 10 from Boston to unload two tractor trailers of supplies, signs, bikes and everything else
needed for an event for almost 1,200 cyclists. In all it took all 3 days to assemble and fit 150
rental bikes, stock 7 rest stops, signage for the 100 mile route and the big
start / finish line! After the event, it took everyone 5 hours to disassemble and
get everything back to the staging areas and 4 hours on Sunday morning to pack
up both semi trucks!
But while out there they were able to get in some serious
riding and climbing.
Bart got in almost 300 miles in 5 days of riding and almost
25K of climbing. This photo is at the top of Santa Rosa Creek Road.
