This
past weekend, Gary Painter bounced back from a disappointing national TT
championship only two weeks ago to take first place in the 60+ age group at the
Northern California- Nevada District TT championships and in so doing, set a
new national record for the distance in his age group. Although Gary is
the top ranked timetrialist in the country in his age group, the result was far
from a sure thing as he came down with an infection during the week leading up
to the event and had been on antibiotics for two days.
Still, he was
maximally motivated after a mechanical at the line cost him a shot at the
national championship TT two weeks before.
Gary clocked a time of 51:54,
which bested the previous record of 52:42 that had stood since 1999.
Now
Gary holds the national record in the 40 k TT for BOTH the 55+ and 60+ age
groups and joins Cliff Cassidy with the recently set one hour record in the 60+
age group, who is also coached by PCG Coach Steve McGregor.
