Gold Medal and State Champ jersey!
Kristi
had this race as one of her main goals of 2014.
She began the race with a plan to execute for three scenarios: attack
early, attack late, or a pack sprint.
Since sprinting is not her specialty, we aimed for a solo or small
breakaway. It was a strong field of 23
riders in this Women Cat 4 only, but Kristi had two committed teammates to help
her reach her goal.
The
race held together and on the final lap Kristi attacked solo through a sweeping
180 turn with 500 meters to go. She
quickly got a gap up a short hill leading to final turn ahead of the finish
line. By the time the pack reacted it
was too late - Kristi won the race, earned a Gold medal, and rode away with the
State Champion jersey!
