Gary Painter did a perfect job of
negative split pacing on a windy day to repeat as the Indiana State TT
champion. Gary played it smart and used
a predetermined power target to hold back on the tailwind outbound leg and put
the hammer down after the turnaround
into the stiff headwind. On the way out,
he averaged 31 mph and on the inbound leg he was only 26.5 mph, but he had
enough left to finish with the best 10 min power of the whole race coming to
the line. This was also the best average
power for a long TT this year and bodes well for the upcoming master's national
championships.
