Tom Hackleman on the podium at the
Wenatchee Omnium on June 10, 2012. I
only had to watch Kodin. And I did from about 50 yards away for most of the
climb knowing I would catch him on the descent, which we did no problem.
"We were Martin Rand and I. We worked well together all the way up
the climb. Right behind us was Dr. Jeff. I could see him in my rear view mirror
for most of the climb. He was soooo close but I couldn't wait because I had to
catch Kodin up ahead. With Martin and I working together it was 2 vs 1 and
eventually our gap on Jeff grew too big. Bummer. The descent is a classic then
when you get to the river valley there is a tail wind all the way to the
finish. Seemed like 1 1/2 hrs to the top and 1/2 hour to the finish. Great fun.
With regrouping we had about 8 guys working together. Nobody was gonna catch us
and we were not catching anyone so with about 3k to go we all caught our
breaths for the finale. Martin went at about 200m, I was stuck on his wheel and
came around at about 100m on a nice little uphill finish. Gave it all and
finished 1st in our group. That gave me 2nd for the RR and 2nd overall."
