On November 19th, 2011, Karen Mackin
raced at the Bay State short track Speed Skating meet in Walpole, MA ending
close to 10 years of not skating. The Bay State club started offering ice time
near her home and she just couldn't resist a reintroduction to the sport. She
raced in the Masters Women's Division and came in third place. She explained
"Short track is so exciting, fun and is awesome cross training for
cycling", she added "in recent years, my anaerobic capacity has been somewhat
neglected while I focused a lot on the sport of triathlon, particularly long
events. Short track has helped me to regain the ability to push myself
anaerobically"
