Peaks Coaching Group and everyone involved, give a big shout out to PCG athlete, Rob Martin!

Rob competed in five big gravel rides/races this spring in the New England region starting with the Toad Strangler on April 3rd, The Muddy Onion on April 23rd, The Massochistah (The Dirty Hurty) on May 14th, Wilmington Whiteface on June 4th, and the VT Monster Gravel Grinder on June 18th. Rob shows up to race these events, not to just ride them, but to race them over the entire distance agains the hundreds that enter. This usually means very firm opening miles to gain separation, before taking stock of the racers he's with and settling down into a multi-hour sustainable pace.

The stats from each race are given here:

The Toad Strangler: 9-12finishing position, 39miles, 190TSS, 3356' of climbing, 2:11Time

The Muddy Onion: 15-20finishing position, 39miles, 204TSS, 3678' of climbing, 2:18Time

The Dirty Hurty: 9th overall, 72miles, 365TSS, 8881' of climbing, 5:37Time

Wilmington Whiteface: 13/100 in the 50+ age group, 68miles, 352TSS, 7638' of climbing, 5:17Time

VT Gravel Monster: somewhere 10th to 20th position, 79miles, 389TSS, 9049' of climbing, 5:22Time

Rob generally finishes at or near the top of anyone that is 55 years old or older, and is usually banging around in these events with guys in their 20's.

Rob is a veteran long-distance athlete that can take a lot of training load. This year he decided to hire Elite/Master PCG Coach Bill Gros to gain a better handle on how he was training. I took him out of the "hard, hard, hard" training regimen, which works, until it doesn't, incorporated some recovery and expanded his physiological skills and adaptations and it led to this awesome spring campaign! After the VT Monster, we took him off the bike for an entire week and he did absolutely nothing. This will be the catalyst to a strong second half of the season and I expect to provide another report in October with another set of glowing results.

 Well done Rob Martin!
