Cyclist
Miles Whitford of Rutherford placed second overall in the Junior class of the
2015 New Jersey Bicycling Association (NJBA) Garden State Cup. This is the
first year that Miles has raced competitively as a member of the Montclair
Bikery Colavita Development Team. Outgoing team member Stephen Spiller of Flemington placed first overall.
The
NJBA Garden State Cup for Juniors features a series of criterium bicycle races
throughout New Jersey. Some of the
highlights on the circuit include the historic Tour of Somerville and Tour of
Basking Ridge.
“Miles is a great example of how hard work, dedication, and a good bit of talent can produce results in the sport of bicycle racing” according to David Adornato, owner of Montclair Bikery. “Junior cycling is more than just an opportunity to learn how to race a bike. The discipline required to race successfully builds character and helps instill maturity in boys and girls that will help them in all aspects of their lives."

Montclair Bikery Colavita Development Team is led by Bill Brunner, Elite Coach
with Peaks Coaching Group. According to
Bill, “Miles’ work ethic and commitment to the team secured the overall Garden
State Cup for the team. He has become a leader and role model for the younger
riders on the team.”
Bill’s
involvement is important to the team.
“He is determined to set us up for success,” says Miles. “Before each race, we strategize and set goals. Afterward, we debrief and plan for future improvement.”
Chatham team member Matt Jogodnik states, “It’s an extremely rewarding experience to see all of the hard work and training pay off with good results.”
The
team is currently in the midst of their autumn cyclocross season. Soon, winter training will begin in advance
of the 2016 racing season. Anybody interested in learning more about the racing
