On November 15th 2014, Siong
rode in the Johor Century field like a pro. He knew his competitors,
"it was one of those races with the usual suspects." At the first onslaught of attacks, only 30k into the race, he held on to
the lead pack and rode with them for a bit, but then recognizing that this
group could probably sustain this pace (and he knew he could not), he
decisively let this group go (about 25 riders) and dropped back to the main
pack. He sat comfortably in the main pack doing only the necessary
amount of work as this group raced through the hills and began picking up those
riders who got popped off of the lead pack. The lead group continued to
dwindle as the race pressed on. 24 riders, to 21, then 18, then 15. In the last 30k his group began a serious effort and strung out the
field making his pack even smaller. With about 1.5k to go, Siong
attacked, got a gap and sprinted with all of his might and held that gap to the
line, which placed him 16th overall and 4th in his Masters Category! Well done Siong!
