Mike
Rickey raced the Velotek Grand Prix Stage Race in Kansas in the Masters 1/2/3
race.
Mike
was a bit nervous for the first stage which was a an all-out 0.8 ML. hill climb
and he did awesome! He used his power meter to perfection to be able to finish
the stage in 4th place only 12 seconds off the lead going into the 2nd
stage later that same day.
The
2nd stage is Mike’s major strength: the criterium race and he raced
it to his strengths. Mike won the 2nd stage out right and gained a
10 second time bonus, putting him in 3rd place over all going into
Sundays 3rd and final stage a 58 mile rolling road race.
Mike
continued to race smart knowing that his strength is his massive sprint. He
conserved and stayed with the lead group going into the final and took 2 place
on the stage and 1st place overall for the stage race.
Mike
did an awesome job and with the help of his teammates Eric Finks and Nick Hand,
also Peaks Athletes, who did an awesome job helping Mike to the top step!
Mike
has been training very hard through the winter. Last week’s 3rd
place at Spring Valley Road Race was a great stepping stone to this awesome stage
race win!
Congrats
to Mike, Eric, and Nick.
