Matt
Blackmore got his 2014 season off to a great start at the St. George 70.3. Matt
got out of the water in a time of 34:52 for his first open water swim of the
year. Out onto the bike he settled in nicely and built into things. Going up
the final climb Matt did a great job of keeping his power within the targeted
range and came into T2 with a split of 2:48:38. By the time the run came the
heat was started to increase, so Matt had to play it conservative in the
beginning. Over the course of the run Matt was able to steadily pick up the
pace, moving up 10 stops in his division.
The day ended with a 1:45:15 run and a new PR by 16 minutes, on a day
that was considerable more challenging than his previous best. A little down time now for Matt and then
building back up to some more racing in the months to come.
