This
was Rick’s first ever road race as a Cat 3 combined with Pro/1/2, which had
over 60 riders for the 70 mile race.
Rick reached a new level for himself by producing a top 10 finish, and
the 2nd place Cat 3 finisher among some of Tennessee’s strongest elite riders –
all at the racing age of 49! Since
becoming a Cat 3 at the beginning of 2013 Rick has made a big jump in his
performance by putting in more training hours and increased FTP work. Not only that, but for 2014 Rick has slimmed
down significantly to improve his efficiency, which has meant greater
endurance, resistance to fatigue, and of course a higher w/kg. Rick is a prime example of an athlete who
continues to make progress regardless of age and ability, and is someone who is
great at taking the long-term view to athletic development.
