A personal testimonial from a PCG athlete on his successful Tour of Flanders!
"Arrived 4 days before the Tour of Flanders sportive and decided to do a little reconnaissance of a small part of the Tour.
"My confidence faded away when I saw all these appearing well-trained cyclists conquering some of these hills.
"My PCG coach, Rickey Wilson, assured me that I was ready. So the day came and I arrived at the start of the 229 km ride about two hrs early.
The morning was brisk and I was happy the Start was given. First 60 miles was flat and heart rate was just above recovery. Then the real work started: 18 hills, some cobble stones and up to 22 %. The biggest issue were the other slower participants, not the cobble stones or the gradients. I remembered what my coach told me: ride your own race. After 100 miles I felt not tired as I had watched my heart rate and power and I knew that most of the time I was not in the red zone.
When I finished I felt I could ride way more.
Thank you coach: your kitchen sinks are tougher than the Tour of Flanders."
