Deborah Vega from Puerto Rico participated in the two cycling UCI 1.2 events (Clásica CRC and Clásica Esencial) and in the UCI 2.2 women cycling tour Vuelta Tica Internacional Femenina in Costa Rica, with 52 participants from different countries, including Costa Rica, México, Guatemala, Honduras, Chile, Canada, Nicaragua, Panamá, Ecuador, El Salvador, Brasil and Colombia.
She finished in 31th, 37th and 40th place, respectively.
Her team won the third place out of ten teams. The first place was for professional team Swapit/Agolico, and the second place was for the Costa Rican National Team.
Her biggest personal accomplishment was to improve her FTP during the second stage of the tour, a 14 km uphill time trial.
This is the fourth UCI 2.2 tour for her, who switched from mountain biking to road cycling on 2017. Deborah is a 44 years-old mechanical engineer and certified PMP who works full time for a Medical Device company in Puerto Rico.
She usually trains in the mornings before going to work, since she’s too burnt out after work to do anything. Training with power helps her optimize her training, allowing her to train and complete her stretching and recovery routine before heading out to work.
On the road she uses a left-sided power meter, and indoor she uses a smart trainer, especially when days are shorter, and when it rains, which is usual in the Caribbean.
Deborah is coached by PCG coach Axel Santiago, who also is the team’s Technical Director and sponsor.
Congratulations to Deborah for this incredible accomplishment.
