Jonathan Wade of Berkely California participated in the 2019 Haute Route Dolomites, which was a three-day event covering many of the iconic climbs of the region including the Passo Giau and Passo Pordoi. While living in a hilly region, getting Jonathan tuned into sustained climbing meant many training rides out to Mt. Diablo, made famous as a typical stage finale during the Tour of California.
Over three days, Jonathan climbed 23824' covering 135 miles and accumulated 673TSS. We had to adjust down his power zones based on an average elevation of 7500' as a non-acclimated athlete in the event. Jonathan is coached by Peaks Coaching Group Elite/Master level coach Bill Gros.
This is Jonathan, just out of the start ramp for the day three 10-mile Individual Time Trial from Cortina d'Ampezzo to Passo Glau. And as he stated to me "not sure why I was smiling considering what I was about to do!" but as us cycling athletes do, we train and compete to push our personal limits. Congratulations Jonathan Wade!
