Brody
Burnham participated in the 13-14 Junior Mens Nationals this past week in
Hagerstown MD.
He was well prepared physically but not prepared for the
bad luck that would ensue. After a 12th place finish in the
time trial, he looked forward to doing better in the road race and
Criterium. He was in the main pack of the road race when he was taken out
in a crash. He got up and chased from last place, ultimately finishing 27th
out of 49. The Criterium was his last hope for a podium. He rode near the
front to stay out of trouble throughout the entire race. In fifth wheel
going into the next to last corner he was again taken out in a crash.
With bike in one hand and wheel in the other, he ran the 3 blocks to the finish
line still managing to get 17th place out of 45 starters.
Although not the results he wanted, and certainly not representative of his
ability, this was a great learning experience and showed that he did have the
fitness to compete at the highest level.
