PCG athlete Laura Epelbaum, coached by Master Coach ChrisMyers, PhD, destroyed her competition at USAT Duathlon Nationals in Greenville,
SC on April 8-9, 2018. She participated in the draft-legal sprint,
non-draft legal standard, and non-draft legal sprint distances. On the
first of two full days of cold and rainy racing conditions, Laura led the pack
in her first draft legal duathlon. During the opening run, she set a
blistering pace of 21:32.
During the 18k bike course that resembled a
criterium; Laura set the second fastest bike split for her age group.
These efforts secured her 3rd place overall for the draft legal event.
On day 2, Laura once again, lead the way in the non-draft standard
distance course. Coming off the first run, Laura found herself 8th
overall. However, this would not last long. On the 39k bike course,
Laura blazed pace the left everyone eating her rain, soaked dust! Then leaped 7 places to be in striking distance of the podium. This effort
coupled with her phenomenal PR setting R2 pace, Laura again found herself on
the podium in 3rd place. Finally, after resting for two hours after her
PR setting non-draft standard distance race, Laura lined up for the non-draft
sprint distance race. Over the hour long threshold pace race, Laura
fought cramping and fatigue. Through it all, she persevered to claim 3rd
overall!
When the dust settle after her PR setting weekend, Laura had
claimed three podium finishes over three disciplines in two days! These
results secured her a slot with Team USA for the 2019 Duathlon Worlds in Spain!
Great job Laura!!!!
