Peaks Coaching Group Elite coaches Julie McKenzie and
Marianne Holt contested the first ever
Southeastern Masters Regional Championship races last
weekend in Atlanta, Georgia.
This was a 3-race Omnium to determine
the overall Southeastern Masters Regional
Champion. Up first was the crit on Saturday morning. Julie
displayed her sprinting prowess by winning both sprint premes and taking 1st
with Marianne a close 2nd.
Sunday started with a hilly,
challenging 7-mile time trial. This time, Marianne bested Julie leaving
them just 4 points apart in the overall. The afternoon road race would
determine the final champion. This race was run on the same 7-mile course
as the time trial which racers would cover five times.
Despite Marianne’s best efforts to soften Julie by
attacking the hills and getting the jump on her in the final turn, Julie
managed to nip Marianne at the line to clinch the overall.
What a great opportunity to
employ race tactics and test fitness with age groups up to 60+ fielding a
strong contingent of women!
Congratulations ladies!
