The 4 Deserts Roving Race was hosted by the beautiful island
nation of Sri Lanka this year. Competitors traversed 250km on foot from Kandy,
moving south east, only finishing when they hit the ocean in the Yala
national park.
We met peacocks, snakes, bats, and plenty of dogs along the
way, passing through tea plantations, rural villages and many beautiful
temples! The people of Sri Lanka extended their warmest hospitality, offering
water, bananas, green beans and ginger snap cookies along the way, which
competitors coveted! After six days of running and six nights of sleeping rough
(sometimes in tents, scout halls, tea plantations, or under the
stars!) competitors reached the finish line and were met with an amazing
Sri Lankan feast of chickpeas, hoppers, and king coconuts. An amazing
adventure!
