On
Sunday, May 18th, PCG athletes, Robin Leavitt, Lark Elliott and Kerry
McCarville had a unique opportunity to toe the line with their coach, Marianne Holt, to race in the only US qualifier in the UCI World Cycling Tour. All three
athletes and their coach pre-rode the 73 mile course a few weeks earlier to
scope out the very challenging route and become familiar with the frequent
turns and unrelenting hills. This proved to be a valuable training day and
allowed Marianne to devise a unique race strategy based on each athlete’s individual
strengths and goals. The outcome couldn’t have been better. All four qualified
to race in the UCI World Championships in Slovenia in August. In addition, Lark and Marianne both won their
age groups with Robin and Kerry placing second. Congratulations to all!
