Tom Platt -- Congratulations! You have
qualified for the 2012 USA Cycling Mountain Bike Cross-country National
Championships scheduled for July 5-8 in Sun Valley, Idaho. Last weekend he took 5th in Cat 2 at
Squilchuck/Chainsmoker MTB race in Wenatchee, WA.
I lined up at the front and was
chatting with the guy that won last week.
On one of the climbs I carried a little more momentum. I expected to see
him again. I didn't. I was warned about a steep climb later in the lap, one
where there's no warning and no chance to shift once on it. I got stuck behind
a guy that misjudged it and stopped. I yelled to GO! GO! GO! I had to dismount
and run, remounted and kept going. CX skills!
Last lap, Possibly could have dug a little deeper, but in the moment I
was going as hard as I could. I made a few mistakes, placing wheels wrong and
fortunately nothing come of it. This course could and would bite you. I was
passed earlier on the last lap, but got it back. Coming up toward the ugly
climb I looked back and I saw a guy and went as hard as I could to the finish.
Mission accomplished.
