Dec 12, 2011

Coach Earl brought home his 3rd podium medal of the 2011 season with a 2nd place at the WSBA State Cyclocross Championship. The course was mostly flat, fast with several twisty sections around tall evergreens with wide exposed roots making things very slippery. He knew a good hole shot would help create a gap in the field. The December chill factor kicked in with morning temps close to a crisp 29 degrees at the start. An early call up, put him in the front row and he was able to get the hole shot. Before the first lap was completed he was in a three man break and they had a commanding 30 second lead. The three man break worked together during the race, on the final lap, he drove hard through all the twisty sections to separate himself from the other two racers, it worked. One roadie in the break was able to regain the small gap and gained a few seconds in the final minutes of the race and he finished 2nd.
