Day 2011 was marked by a friendly family rivalry for David Hart. His daughter
and niece (both competitive cross country runners) had plans on "taking
him down" at the annual turkey trot in Chatham, MA. David decided to
enlist the help of his peaks coach Karen Mackin, who armed him with a few
months of 5k focused run training. “I’ve never seen David so motivated to hit
every interval, hill repeat and tempo run in his training! He really worked hard
for this race.” said Karen. David explained "Both Campbell (daughter 17)
and Rachel (niece 26) were about 20 seconds behind me most of the way.
"They came right up on my heels w/ about 100 yards to go and I was sure
they had me, but I decided if they were going by, it was gong to hurt them too,
and somehow, I put about 10 seconds on them at the end ( who knew I had a
kick?)." Even after he won the race, the family competition didn't end,
the three of them went on to compete for the most “Perfect Legs”. See post race
photo! Now that is one competitive family!
