Cyclist Miles Whitford of Rutherford jumped into his sprint before the last turn in Plainfield to win the first place jersey for the Junior 17-18 class of the 2016 New Jersey Bicycling Association (NJBA) Championship. This is the second year that Miles has raced competitively as a member of the Montclair Bikery Development Team.  Team members Ben Douglas (Bloomfield) and Matt Jogodnik (Chatham) place first and third overall, respectively, in their races.

The NJBA schedules races throughout the state for all ages and skill levels.  Highlights on the circuit include the Tour of Basking Ridge and the historic Tour of Somerville, touted as the oldest major bicycle race in the United States.

The Montclair Bikery Development Team is led by Bill Brunner, Elite Coach with Peaks Coaching Group.  According to Bill, “The team was very fortunate to find Miles not only for his cycling abilities but his leadership. In two short years, he has climbed to the top to New Jersey Junior cycling, all the while mentoring younger riders to their own successes.”

Bill’s involvement is important to the team.  According to Miles, “Coach Bill always pushes us to do better and race smarter. After every race we always talk about what we could've done better and we use that to get better results in the next race. All of our hard work is paying off. ”

In speaking about the Montclair Bikery, Miles added, “The Montclair Bikery has always provided endless support for the youth development team, making sure that we have everything we need to be the best we can be.”

JK Home Visions, LLC, a Rutherford-based real estate redevelopment firm, is an official sponsor of the Montclair Bikery race team.  The team is currently in the midst of their 2016 road race season.  In the autumn the team will participate in cyclocross season.
