PCG Coach James Schaefer participated in The Tour of Hampton Roads this past weekend and had this to report, “The Tour of Hampton Roads was an omnium format with a TT, Crit and RR. The weekend was a great event, very well organized and a must do again. The TT Saturday morning was 10 miles on rolling terrain that tested your TT and bike handling skills. Saturday evening’s Criterium was held at Oyster Point City Center. This was a fantastic location for a race. The course was fast flat but not easy to “sit-in”. The finish line was across from several restaurants that had tables set up outside so patrons could watch the events. They were treated to expert commentary by Joe Jefferson. The final stage was a road race on a 10 mile loop in New Kent County. The promoter stated that the course would test all your cycling skill except climbing, he was right. About 3 miles from the finish the course ran over about a mile of dirt road. This facilitated attaches and would eventually split most of the fields. The entire weekend was well planned and a great event. Let’s hope that The Tour of Hampton Roads will be on the race calendar again next year.”
